The science of Ḥadīth occupies a central position in Islamic scholarship, as the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) constitutes the second primary source of Islamic teachings after the Holy Qur’an. The preservation, authentication, and transmission of the Prophetic traditions have remained the foremost concern of Muslim scholars throughout history. Among the distinguished scholars who rendered remarkable services in this field was Imām Abū Nuʿaym al-Iṣfahānī (d. 430 AH), a renowned muhaddith, historian, biographer, and prolific author. This study aims to examine his scholarly contributions to the science of Ḥadīth through an analytical and descriptive approach. The research explores Imām Abu Nuʿaym’s biography, his academic stature, reliability (thiqāh), precision in narration (ḍabṭ), scholarly methodology, and his outstanding services to Ḥadīth literature. It also provides an overview of his major works, including Ḥilyat al-Awliyāʾ wa Ṭabaqāt al-Aṣfiyāʾ, Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah, Maʿrifat al-Ṣaḥābah, Al-Musnad al-Mustakhraj ʿalā Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, and Tārīkh Iṣfahān, highlighting their significance in the fields of Ḥadīth, biographical evaluation (ʿIlm al-Rijāl), Sīrah, and Islamic historiography. The study concludes that Imām Abu Nuʿaym made enduring contributions to the preservation, transmission, authentication, and documentation of Ḥadīth, and that his works continue to serve as indispensable references for scholars and researchers in Ḥadīth studies.
